What's in a name? Agape Counselling

Agape (Ancient Greek ἀγάπη, agapē) means "the highest form of love, charity". It is prounounced a (as in "gap") gap ("gap") eh.
Agape is a universal, unconditional love that goes beyond circumstances and lasts. It transcends emotion and desire. It seeks the best for others. It is distinct from philia (brotherly love), philautia (self-love), and eros (sexual love).

Counselling experience

  • In private practice since 2012, I work mostly with adult individuals and couples. Their concerns have included grief, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, despair, feeling stuck, and feeling overwhelmed by the need to make decisions.
  • Even so, my primary focus is always the person not the issue. We are each so much more than any diagnostic label.

Why am I a counsellor?

I know what it feels like to be disconnected from myself, from others, and from the juice of life. I know what it feels like to function in the world but feel dead inside. I observe it in others.

I notice the fear that helps to keep us in our place, and the pressures encouraging us to be something we are not.

I watch people dealing with painful experiences as best as they know and finding ways to distract themselves from their discomfort and pain. But distraction doesn’t really work.

I am grateful for the guidance and care I have received in my own journey.

I am passionate about facilitating healing because I know it will affect not only my client but also the people my client interacts with. It is my contribution to making this world a saner more life-enhancing place.

I’ve always loved nature and music.

  • Gardening, Tai Chi, jigsaw puzzles, are a few other things I enjoy.
  • I speak German, Spanish, and English.
  • And in case you need a reference, my 9-year-old nephew says that I am truly kind and the best listener ever. (No bribery involved.)
